Music legend Stevie Wonder’s connection to Ghana goes beyond rhythm and melody. In a heartwarming ceremony on May 13, 2024, coinciding with his 74th birthday, the music legend officially became a Ghanaian citizen, marking a significant chapter in his life and a testament to the enduring passion of a cultural connection.

This was not just a celebrity receiving an honor. Stevie, a long admirer of Ghana’s rich culture and warm hospitality, expressed a deep-rooted desire to be part of the nation. He spoke of feeling a connection to his “civilization” being there, a sentiment that resonates with the Pan-African ideal of unity within the African diaspora.

The citizenship ceremony, held at the Jubilee House, Ghana’s seat of government, was a beautiful display of cultural exchange and mutual appreciation. Ghanaian President Akufo-Addo commended Stevie’s musical contributions and dedication to the African diaspora, while Stevie expressed profound gratitude for the warm welcome he received.

Upon his arrival at Kotoka International Airport on the morning of May 13, 2024, Stevie Wonder was warmly greeted by fans and industry players, marking the beginning of his new life in Ghana.

Additionally, his activism and philanthropy made him a revered figure both within and beyond the music industry.

Stevie Wonder’s story is more than just another celebrity headline. It’s a powerful illustration of the enduring human desire to belong. His decision to embrace Ghana highlights the cultural bridges that music can build, fostering a sense of connection that transcends borders.

Ghana’s Homowo festival is a significant cultural occasion that honors the harvest. Since ancient times, the festival has been held every year and focuses on a variety of facets of life, including farming, trade, music, and dancing. Families should gather to celebrate this holiday and remember their ancestors. People from all walks of life get the chance to come together and celebrate the excellent contributions made by members of society to raise the standard of living for others at the Homowo festival.

In Ghana, the Homowo festival is a well-liked annual celebration. One of the most significant holidays for the Ga people, the event is observed at a different time of year in each hamlet of the Gas.

Since the beginning of time, a Journey into Ghanaian Culture, the Ga people—also known as the “Masters of All Arts”—have celebrated this holiday.

Homowo is a term that means “to create a desire.” The name is derived from the word “homowo,” which is a “little bird.” It’s said that seeing a bird on your way to the store or during the day would bring you and your family luck.

The Ga people believe that because they are making offerings to their gods and goddesses during this festival, all of their wishes will come true. Homowo is celebrated to remember how the Ga people’s ancestors managed to survive the severe famine and hunger that plagued them as they were migrating to Ghana.

The festival’s meal is prepared using the corn that is sown in preparation for the Kpokpoi or Kpekple festival. Because it is believed to offend the gods, creating noise is forbidden or forbidden during this period. The dinner is given across the town and is accompanied by palm nut soup. Each family’s residence is covered in “kpokpoi.”

Still taking a Journey into Ghanaian Culture, Family chiefs and traditional authorities are typically in charge of this. The celebration includes marching down roads and streets, banging drums, yelling, face painting, singing, and traditional dances.

The Homowo Festival is a time for community gatherings, harvest celebrations, and appreciation of the natural world. People donate food, water, clothing, and other items to the gods and ancestors as part of a thanksgiving ceremony and celebration of fertility.

Summer is a season to honor nature.

Wildlife viewing this summer is in full flow at this time of year, and all of the animals are outside soaking up the rays. Below are great locations for wildlife viewing.

  • Rwanda: face to face with a silverback gorilla

It’s difficult to understand how something so massive (a male gorilla can weigh up to 400 pounds/180 kilograms) can be so vulnerable. Despite this, there are only about 1000 endangered mountain gorillas left in two separate subpopulations. If you visit Volcanoes National Park in June, the start of Rwanda’s dry season, be prepared for muddy, steep trails, high altitude (around 9850 ft; 3000m), and the heartwarming sight of a precious primate family.

Also, the chance to see gorillas is not the only reason to visit Rwanda. Kigali, Rwanda’s calm, orderly capital, is a good place to start, smelling of the country’s great coffee; Nyungwe Forest is home to large populations of chimps and Rwenzori colobus monkeys, while Akagera National Park to the east is a pretty mix of savannah, hills, and valleys, with giraffe, zebra, elephant, and some shy lions.

  • South Luangwa National Park in Zambia: take a walk among the wild animals.

If you want to walk among wild animals, South Luangwa National Park in Zambia is a great location for wildlife viewing. The park’s name is inspired by the Luangwa River, which runs through it. The river is famous for its crocodiles.

Secondly, the park is home to a variety of animals, including elephants and hippopotamuses. It also contains one of Africa’s last remaining black rhinoceroses’ habitats.

So, We recommend taking one of the park’s many walking trails if you want to see these animals without disturbing them. Except for Christmas, they are open all year (December 25).

Rhino
Warthog
  • Mole National Park

Mole National Park is Ghana’s largest national park. It is also one of the most beautiful UNESCO World Heritage sites.

If you want to see elephants, go to Mole National Park. Over 300 elephants (along with other animals) roam freely throughout the park and are great locations for wildlife viewing. Hiking trails, waterfalls, and picnic areas are all available in the park. In conclusion, the loveliest aspect of the tour is that you can even take a walk among the elephants with the help of the tour guards if you want!

2. Zimbabwe

Visitors come from all over the world to see what Zimbabwe offers. In addition, there is a growing interest in STEM and science in the country, so you’ll be able to see some fantastic advancements while you’re there. When traveling through Africa, it is a country that should not be missed.

Between Zambia, South Africa, and Mozambique, Zimbabwe is a beautiful country. Zimbabwe is a fantastic destination for nature lovers and beachgoers seeking a relaxing getaway and one of Africa’s most attractive vacation destinations. When visiting Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls are only one of many natural wonders to behold. Its rich history and culture provide a lasting experience. Natural attractions will leave you speechless with their magnificence, and there is enough to do in and around town.

While Eurotrips have become the standard for today’s youth, the truth is that few experiences compare to traveling across Africa. It is a heartwarming sight to keep returning to because of the high quality of food available, the historical histories, particularly in terms of political accomplishments, and its lovely landscapes.

3. Kenya

The people of Kenya are also quite kind, and you’ll immediately get immersed in their culture. And, while you’re in Kenya, remember that your stay there can be packed with adventure, whether it’s snorkeling along hippo-infested riverbanks or kayaking across a hippo-infested river. Although some may not realize it, Kenya is roughly six times the size of Rhode Island and has a great variety of scenery. There is something for everyone, from snow-capped glaciers on Mt. Kenya and flamingos on Lake Nakuru to safaris where you may drive right up to a pride of lions or rhinos. Furthermore, Masai Mara trips are well-known for being environmentally friendly and focusing on wildlife protection.

4. Madagascar

Madagascar is one of Africa’s most attractive vacation destinations, in general, a beautiful place to visit. Fossas, which are large cat-like predators that appear as they escape from Jurassic Park, can also provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Lemurs are primates belonging to the suborder Strepsirrhini. Like other strepsirrhine primates, such as lorises, pottos, and galagos, they share ancestral (or plesiomorphic) traits with early primates. It’s like a living diorama, with everything from lemurs to hedgehog-like tenrecs on display. There are no elephants or giraffes in this area, but there may be one or two zebras, and you might even spot a whale shark. Madagascar is, in general, a beautiful place to visit.
